Vodafone Spain swaps out legacy set-tops
Vodafone España has begun swapping out of a large number of legacy set-top boxes and routers as it seeks to improve the experience of pay TV and broadband subscribers.
The Spanish arm of Vodafone has already completed the swap-out of 55,000 TiVo set-top boxes. It said that the new set-tops would delvier a differentiated and more fluid experience to users, in some cases with voice control, better sound quality with Bang & Olufsen-designed high-definition sound and the Alexa virtual assistant of Amazon.
The Vodafone TV 4K set-top also includes 350 hours of cloud-based recording time, with up to 100 channels at the same time, and which can be viewed on mobile devices as well as the set-top.
It also provides for immediate access to on-demand content, with the most up-to-date version of apps with content exclusive to Vodafone such as HBO Max and Filmin, restart TV and transfer of viewing to mobile and vice-versa.
Vodafone said the process of substituting the boxes would be transparent to the customer and come at no cost.
Vodafone has also completed the substitution of over 240,000 routers for more up-to-date models with better functionality.
It said that customers would benefit from better WiFi connectivity with speeds of up to 1Gbps via dual-band WiFi, reducing interference and delivering higher speeds to multiple devices simultaneously.
