Western European pay-TV revenues to fall $5 billion by 2028
Western European pay-TV revenues is expected to decline by nearly $5 billion between 2022 and 2028, reports Digital TV Research.
According to the media research outfit, the decline between 2022 and 2028 is a 18% drop to $22 billion.
Digital TV Research pointed this to a 7% loss of pay TV subscribers and as of result revenues will fall faster, revealing lower TV ARPUs as well as less emphasis on TV from the operators.
It was forecasted pay-TV revenues will fall in every country in the region except Malta between 2022 and 2028, with the UK and France each facing a decline by $1 billion.
Digital TV Research further predicted satellite TV will lose $3 billion between 2022 and 2028, with satellite TV subscribers “converting to platforms that offer broadband connections”.
Simon Murray, Digital TV Research’s principal analyst said: “IPTV revenues overtook digital cable in 2022. IPTV will surpass satellite TV in 2025 to become the most lucrative platform.”
