Viaplay launches streaming platform in the US at $5.99 with free 7-day trial
Nordic media company Viaplay says its international streaming platform has gone live in the US. Through its Viaplay app, American viewers “can now enjoy more new series, films and documentaries from the Nordic region than ever before.”
At launch, the Viaplay package is priced at $5.99 per month, with a seven-day free trial. Currently it is available through The Roku Channel and Comcast’s Xfinity and Xumo platforms. However the company expects to widen platform distribution in due course. It is also planning to take the service into Canada from March 7th.
Titles available included Trom, Furia and Threesome, along with thousands of hours of premium European content. The platform is promising at least one premiere every week, with upcoming originals including The Dreamer – Becoming Karen Blixen.
Commenting, Vanda Rapti, Viaplay Group chief commercial officer, North America & Viaplay Select, said: “At just $5.99 with thousands of hours of high quality, exclusive programming, Viaplay offers subscribers incredible value for their streaming dollars.”
Viaplay currently has around 7.3 million DTC subscribers across 11 markets. To date it is rolling out differentiated services to individual markets. In some territories, it is offering a higher priced service that includes premium sports rights. In others, such as North America, it is offering a lower price offering built around Nordic content.
