Swiss pubcaster SRG SSR secures live UEFA Champions league rights
Swiss public broadcaster SRG SSR has secured rights to UEFA Champions League soccer from 2024/25. The deal for European football’s top club competition covers all of the three main language services: SRF (German), RTS (French) and RSI (Italian).
Announcing the deal, SRG SSR said it will “broadcast live games from the European club competitions in men’s football on free-to-air TV and on their online platforms. This is thanks to a sub-license from Blue Sport and a three-season agreement with UEFA.”
Under the terms of the partnership, SRG SSR will show the Champions League Final and one game per round. In addition, it will also air the Europa League and the Europa Conference League on similar terms (Finals plus one game per round).
Despite pressure from commercial rivals, SRG SSR manages to maintain a robust sports rights portfolio thanks to its participation in the EBU. It also secured rights to Swiss national ice hockey team coverage in 2022, in a deal that runs until 2027/28.
PayTV operator Blue’s involvement in the new Champion’s League deal comes about because it is currently the overarching rights holder of UEFA fixtures in the country. The company, which is owned by telco operator Swisscom, renewed its rights to the UEFA events in December 2022, for three years (2024/25-2026/27).
