Roku unveils new range of smart TV sets at CES 2023
Streaming platform Roku has used tech event CES 2023 to unveil plans for its own range of smart TV sets. From spring of this year, it will launch its Roku Select and Roku Plus Series TVs – both 4K products to be built in-house. Until now, the company has partnered with the likes of Amazon and Hisense to build its TVs.
“Our goal is to continue to create an even better TV experience for everyone,” said Mustafa Ozgen, president, devices, Roku. “These Roku-branded TVs will not only complement the current lineup of partner-branded Roku TV mode, but also allow us to enable future smart TV innovations. The streaming revolution has only just begun.”
Available in sizes ranging from 24 to 75-inches, the Roku TVs will offer Roku Voice Remotes. Details on release dates and pricing are expected soon, though it is worth noting that Roku hardware typically comes in at the affordable end of the spectrum.
For hardware watchers, Roku’s decision to build its own TV sets is not a surprise – given that the company launched soundbars and wireless speakers in recent years.
Roku ended 2022 on the back foot, announcing plans to cut its headcount by 200. December also saw the departure of long-term CFO Steve Louden.
