Netherlands’ Ziggo embraces Disney+ streaming platform
Leading Dutch cable operator Ziggo has announced that SVOD streamer service Disney+ is now available on its platform. As of today, the full range of premium Disney + content can be accessed using the Disney+ app.
According to Ziggo, users can “start the app and search the extensive range via the remote control or with the Voice Remote. These search functionalities are available on all Mediabox Next and Next Minis”. Subscribers can manage their Disney+ subscription via My Ziggo, and will pay via their Ziggo invoice.
“By adding Disney+, we are taking an important step in our strategy to offer customers the best viewing experience, with convenience and quality at the forefront,” said Robin Kroes, executive director, consumer market, at VodafoneZiggo. “With the arrival of more and more streaming services, Ziggo makes it easy to find films and series on the Mediabox Next or Next Mini. In addition, customers can order, manage and pay via My Ziggo.”
Bart Verhoeven, director platform distribution of The Walt Disney Company Benelux, added: “We are delighted to be able to further expand our strategic partnership with VodafoneZiggo with Disney+. In this way, the Disney+ service becomes accessible to a large number of Ziggo customers and it is even easier to view the Disney+ offer directly on the Ziggo platform.”
Ziggo is the largest player in a market of 6.9m PayTV subscribers – and is keen to keep it that way. Last month, it made a statement of intent when it acquired the rights to the UEFA Champion’s League and Europa League (starting 2024).
Disney+ has a close affinity with the Dutch market. When Walt Disney decided to launch its own branded streaming service, this was the country it used to trial the platform in 2019 – taking advantage of the country’s high levels of broadband penetration and the population’s familiarity with the English-language.
