RTVE secures two more years of Champions League final
Spanish public broadcaster RTVE has secured the rights to broadcast the final of the UEFA Champions League football tournament for the next two years.
In addition to broadcasting the 2023 and 2024 finals, the pubcaster will air a special series of programmes around the championship in the week preceding the match.
RTVE aired this year’s final for the seventh year in succession. The match between Real Madrid and Liverpool, which was broadcast on La1 on May 28, attracted an audience of over 7.7 million, or 52.8% of the total audience.
Coverage of the match, which saw Real Madrid emerge as the victor, reached a total of 12.4 million spectators overall, making it the most watched broadcast since 2015, and the most-watched Champions League final since 2014.
RTVE also saw over 718,500 unique visitors to its coverage on RTVE Play, its online service.
The pubcaster’s upcoming football coverage will also include 120 hours of overage on La1 and Teledeporte of the FIFA World Cup from Qatar and Spain’s Copa del Rey for the next three years. RTVE has secured rights to the latter for 15 free-to-view matches per season until 2025, including the final and semi-final.
