iWedia passes six million Android TV milestone
TV technology provider iWedia says it has now integrated its software solutions for digital TV service operators and consumer electronics manufacturers in more than six million Android TV OS deployments.
iWedia introduced STAGE, its Operator Tier Android TV launcher, in 2018.
Teatro for Android is the outfit’s customisable Android software stack.
The tech company is soon to be combined with Belgium-based tech outfit Zappware following Nagra-owner Kudelski’s sale of its 40% stake in iWedia to Zappware owner Reinhart Interactive TV.
The pair said that the combination will represent one of the largest TV deployment footprints in the world servicing up to 50 million households. The companies’ joint customer base includes A1, Amplia/TSST, Bouygues Telecom, Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, NTT DoCoMo, Orange, Reliance Jio, Swisscom, Sky, Telus, Une and Unity Media.
“To reach such a significant milestone and be the vendor with a high number of Android TV OS deployments in the market is a great achievement and a strong validation of our decision to back the technology. We are extremely proud to be a reliable partner of telcos across the globe without whom this achievement would not be possible. Thanks to our ability to meet aggressive timelines and de-risk the projects by taking responsibility for core software components, we can help our customers in their TV journey,” said Hans-Jürgen Desor, iWedia’s CEO.
Mark Seidenfeld, head of APAC partnerships, Android TV at Google said: “We congratulate iWedia on this significant milestone of its journey with Android TV OS and are really proud of our collaboration, which has seen a number of complex projects spanning from middleware and content security to, most recently, ad insertion. We have a great deal of respect for the iWedia team and their technical expertise and are looking forward to our future.”
