DTH down in India
DTH services in India saw total subscribers drop by 1.6 million in the first quarter of 2022.
According to The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), pay DTH has at a total active subscriber base of around 66.92 million in March 2022. This was down from 68.52 million in December 2021.
There were four pay DTH service providers in India at the end of the quarter. Tata Play was the largest, with a 33.23% share, followed by Bharti Telemedia at 26.24%, Dish TV India with 22.1% and Sun Direct TV at 18.43%.
While there are few pay DTH service providers, as of March 31 2022, there are 1764 MSOs registered with MIB. There are 12 MSOs & 1 HITS operator who have a subscriber base greater than one million.
The largest of these is GTPL Hathway with 8.23 million subscribers. The remainder of the top five is made up of Siti Networks (7.28 million) Hathway Digital (5.46 million), Den Networks (4.46 million) and Thamizhaga Cable TV Communication (3.86 million).
