EBU re-elects president and vice-president while two join executive board

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced the re-election of its president and vice-president Delphine Ernotte-Cunci and Petr Dvořák.

The industry body also said that UA:PBC’s Mykola Chernotytskyi and BR’s Dr Katja Wildermuth will take up vacant positions on the board, while EBU director general Noel Curran has been appointed to serve a further six years in office.

Delphine Ernotte-Cunci, the CEO of France Télévisions and former deputy CEO of the Orange Group, was elected to the role of EBU vice-president in 2019 and became president in 2021. 

Petr Dvořárk meanwhile has served as director-general of Czech Television since 2011, and served for six years on the EBU executive board before his election as vice-president from 2021.

Both were re-elected to a second two-year mandate at the 88th General Assembly in Dubrovnik. Their new mandate will start from January 2023.

In a joint statement the pair said: “One hundred years after the creation of the BBC, and therefore one hundred years after the invention of public service media, we must, again and again, emphasise our work on our values: mutual aid, solidarity, independence, impartiality in the face of threats to freedom and democracy.

“With your support, we are confident that our vast network, unique in the world, can continue to go from strength to strength as we put our values of solidarity and independence into action.”

The other appointments see Mykola Chernotytskyi – head of the managing board at Ukraine’s UA: PBC – and Katja Wildermuth – director-general of German broadcaster Bayerischer Rundfunk – joining the executive board for the first time. They are replacing  Thomas Bellut (ZDF) and Sebastian Sergei Parker (Channel One).
