Mediapro renews FTA rights to LaLiga

Spanish producer and distributor Mediapro has renewed domestic free-to-air and highlights rights for Spanish top-tier football for the next three seasons.

Gol, the digital-terrestrial sports channel owned by the Catalan outfit, will continue to be the destination channel for free-to-air LaLiga Santander and LaLiga SmartBank matches and all the game highlights for the next three seasons, the group has announced.

The deal means that Gol will continue to be the free-to-air sports flagship for the Mediapro Group, offering viewers a range of sporting content.

Mediapro said that over the last few years, the LaLiga Santander matches aired by the channel have been seen by more than a million viewers with 500,000 viewers recorded for the match highlights shows.

Mediapro said that its football-and-sport-in general strategy had helped to put Gol at the top of the digital-terrestrial themed sports channels rankings for the last five years. The channel recorded a 1.3% audience share last season.
