DAZN set to cut 5% of UK workforce as growth markets take focus
Sports streamer DAZN is reportedly making around 50 staff redundant from its Hammersmith, London headquarters.
According to a report from Deadline, the streamer will cut 5% of its UK workforce, with a four-week redundancy process having already been started.
DAZN, which saw a potential tie-up with BT Sport fall through earlier this year, plans to decentralise its UK operations and focus more on growth in its more prominent regions including Spain, Germany and Italy.
This will lead to around the same number of staff being hired in Spain ahead of the 2022/23 LaLiga season, while DAZN has sought senior leaders across its major markets in recent months.
Earlier this week, Pete Parmenter, SVP business development at DAZN revealed more details on the company’s plans for the UK and its failed attempt to merge with or acquire BT Sport, referring to it as the company’s “Plan A” for making a major entry into the UK
“We’re going to have to go to plan B,” Parmenter said. “We don’t want to be a player without a big business in the UK but how we get there is still up for debate. I think we will have a business here, but it won’t be the plan A that we had hoped for.”
