Global AVOD spend to hit US$70 billion
The global spend on AVOD series and movies is set to approach three quarters of a billion dollars within five years.
According to a new report from Digital TV Research, AVOD revenues for TV series and movies will reach US$70 billion in 2027, up from US$33 billion in 2021.
The report notes that 13 of the 138 countries covered – including India, Japan, the UK, the US and China – will generate more than US$1 billion in 2027. This is a significant increase from the five countries with AVOD revenues in excess of US$1 billion in 2021.
Of those, China will see the least growth proportionally. This is as a result of a 2021 government clampdown on fan-based culture.
Simon Murray, Principal Analyst at Digital TV Research, said: “US AVOD will grow by US$19 billion to US$31 billion by 2027 – remaining the largest country by far. The US has the world’s most sophisticated advertising industry by some distance, plus AVOD choice is greater in the US than anywhere else. The US will account for 46% of the global total by 2027, up from 39% in 2021.”
