IPTV continues to fuel growth for Magyar Telekom
Deutsche Telekom’s Hungarian business Magyar Telekom (MT) has added just over 20,000 subscribers in the latest quarter.
DT’s MT-Hungary segment operates in Hungary, providing mobile and fixed line telecommunications, TV distribution, information communication and system integration services to millions of residential and business customers under the Telekom and T-Systems brands.
The company ended Q3 with 1.29 million total TV customers, up from 1.27 million in Q2 and an increase of over 700,000 year-over-year.
IPTV continues to be MT’s most prominent TV service, with the tech approaching 1 million subscribers. Satellite and cable TV both continue to diminish, with the latter dipping below 100,000 in Q1 2021.
MT also operates in North Macedonia, where it has a total of 144,975 subscribers This was a negligible increase from Q2.
Overall, the operator’s TV revenue was up 8.0% year-on-year to HUF14.2 billion in Q3 2021, primarily driven by further expansion of the IPTV subscriber base in both countries.
