StarTimes renews Italian football rights

Chinese-owned African digital pay TV operator StarTimes has renewed exclusive rights to broadcast Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana football for further three seasons across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Under the terms of the contract with Lega Serie A, StarTimes has extended its exclusive rights to the two Italian premier Cup competitions in English, French, Portuguese and African indigenous languages up to the 2023-24 season.

Coppa Italia is Italy’s single-elimination domestic Cup competition, and Supercoppa Italiana is the annual match-up between the winner of Italy’s Serie A and the Coppa Italia champion.

StarTimes currently serves 13 million DVB subscribers and 27 million OTT users in over 30 countries. The operator owns a channel content platform combining over 700 African and international channels.

“We are pleased to extend our partnership with Lega Serie A. It is important for us to continue to provide Italian football to fans in Africa. Coppa Italia and Supercoppa Italiana have proved to be exciting competitions, that became very popular among our subscribers,” said Philippe Zou, StarTimes content oeration centre director.
