Orange renews LaLiga and Champions League rights deal in Spain with Telefónica
Orange has renewed its sublicencing deal for LaLiga and UEFA club competitions in Spain.
Orange España CEO Jean-François Fallache said that the operator is paying rights holder Telefónica around €300 million for the rights contract.
The deal covers rights to the Movistar sports channels, which offers every LaLiga and LaLiga Segunda fixture, along with the UEFA Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.
Telefónica has openly stated its displeasure at having to share its sports rights, and earlier this year challenged a ruling from the Spanish competition authority that said it must sublicence key sports content. Under the ruling, which runs until 2023, Telefónica must sublicence its rights to LaLiga, the Champions League, Formula One and MotoGP.
