Iliad makes bid for UPC Poland
French telco Iliad has made an indicative offer for Liberty Global’s Polish ISP UPC.
The telco, which agreed a deal to acquire Polish mobile operator Play for more than €2 billion in late 2020, said that it has made an offer of PLN7.3 billion (€1.6 billion) for 100% of UPC Poland’s shares. The bid, it said, was based on EBITDA of PLN782 million (€171.42 million) in 2020.
On an investors call, Iliad CEO Thomas Reynaud said: “In line with our ambition to become a true convergent player in Poland, we’re currently looking at different options on our broadband activity.”
While Reynaud had talked up a “potential acquisition of a broadband player on the Polish market,” an alternative option for the operator would be for Iliad to set up its own Polish broadband company.
