Sky Q gets HDR sports
Just in time for the 2020 Olympic Games, Sky Q is adding HDR to its UHD sports broadcasts.
Starting with the opening ceremony, Sky said that over 200 hours of sport will be broadcast on Sky Q’s dedicated Eurosport 4K channel in Ultra HD and HDR via the red button.
HDR viewing will be available to Sky UHD subscribers, with the operator offering a three-month free offer of the higher fidelity video via the Sky VIP app through to August 26.
Following the Olympics, Sky will also broadcast live Premier League matches in Ultra HD and HDR, starting from Brentford vs Arsenal on August 13.
The addition of HDR sports content comes after Sky Q added HDR movies and series in late 2020.
Fraser Stirling, Group Chief Product Officer, Sky, said: “Bringing HDR to live sport for the first time means you can feel closer to all the action of the Olympics and Premier League games, with the ultimate picture quality that creates the best at-home viewing experience. For sports fans, it’s the next best thing to being in the stadium.”
