LG integrates Alexa with third-party webOS TVs
LG has announced the integration of Amazon’s Alexa AI smart assistant with LG webOS on third-party smart TVs.
This is the latest development for LG’s webOS since the company began licensing its smart TV OS to third-party TV makers earlier this year.
Brands including Advance, Blaupunkt, Eko, JSW, Manta, Polaroid, RCA, Seiki and Skytech as well as original design manufacturers Ayonz, Dualshine, Konka, Silicon Player, Skyworth and Xianyou have already integrated the OS and will benefit from the capabilities of Alexa.
Users can access Alexa by long pressing the Amazon Prime Video button on their remote. The AI assistant enables users to control their TV, launch apps and find content recommendations.
LG said that the feature will be activated over-the-air starting in the third quarter in North America followed by other regions including Europe and Asia.
Jung Sung-hyun, head of content services at LG Home Entertainment Company, said: “The addition of Amazon Alexa to the long list of webOS features will enhance the user experience and boost the value of our growing smart TV ecosystem.Bringing together the capabilities of Alexa with the convenience of webOS to third-party TVs is a win-win-win for TV brands, customers and developers.”
