Ex-government minister Volin named as RSCC director-general

Russian state-backed satellite operator Russian Satellite Communications Company (RSCC) has named Alexey Volin as its new director general.

Volin was appointed by the country’s Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media and his appointment was effective as of June 28.

Among the main tasks of Volin is expected to address at RSCC are strengthening and modernisation of the existing satellite constellation, maintaining RSCC’s market position in an increasingly competitive environment, providing communication services for remote regions of the Far North of Russia, and participating in international cooperation and in the work of the International Organization for Space Communications (IOSC) Intersputnik.

From July 2012 to October 2020, Volin served as deputy minister of digital development, communications and mass media of the Russian Federation. Не was responsible for the digitisation of Russian television and the shutdown of analogue broadcasting in the country.

His long and varied career in governmental and commercial roles also includes stints as First Deputy Chairman of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company (VGTRK) in 1998-2000 and general director of the Amedia Film Company in 2007.
