TCL launches its first Roku TV models for UK
TCL Electronics has announced the launch of a new low-cost Roku-powered TV for the UK market.
The launch marks TCL’s first Roku TVs available in the UK, and follows several years of limited activity from the TV maker in the market.
TCL is launching a range of models in both HD and 4K UHD in sizes ranging from 32- to 65-inches. The cheapest set is the 32-inch RS520K at £229, and presents a full suite of features and apps to offer a low barrier to entry into the smart TV market.
Roku TVs in the UK offer access to a wide range of apps and streaming services including Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, AppleTV+, NOW, BT Sport, BBC iPlayer, ITV Hub, All 4, and My 5. The smart TV OS also carries The Roku Channel, which offers more than 25,000 movies and TV episodes along with the programming it acquired from now-defunct Quibi as Roku Originals.
The TVs also support Apple AirPlay 2, Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
Bernie Chen, TCL’s UK Country Manager said: “I am thrilled to be launching TCL Roku TVs in the UK. The combination of our affordable premium TVs with Roku’s operating system, offers consumers excellent picture quality and ease of use, alongside a huge variety of features and streaming channels. I am confident that this partnership will help us maintain our strong UK sales growth and increase our market share.”
Arthur van Rest, VP International at Roku, said: “TCL was one of the first TV brands to embrace the Roku OS and together we have created numerous award-winning TVs with great picture quality and ease of use. TCL Roku TV models are powered by the Roku OS offering consumers simplicity, choice and incredible value. The Roku OS offers consumers an always current smart TV experience, it is not without reason that the Roku OS is the #1 selling smart TV OS in the US and Canada.”
