England Euro win sets new iPlayer record for BBC
England’s Euro 2020 opener against Croatia has set a new record for the BBC iPlayer.
The match, which kicked off at 2pm on June 13, saw England win their opening match at the European championship for the first time.
The match was broadcast by the BBC, which said that it attracted a peak TV audience of 11.6 million and a 79.2% share of available viewers. However, it was on the BBC’s digital platforms where it broke new ground.
The match was streamed 3.9 million times on BBC iPlayer – a new record for the platform. The stream was watched by a further 600,000 viewers on BBC Sport online.
England’s second group match against Scotland on June 18 is anticipated to have even bigger viewing numbers, with the Scots playing in the first major tournament since 1998.
