Sky Sports MD reportedly announces resignation

Sky Sports managing director Rob Webster will step down next month, claims a new report from The Times.

According to the report, Webster, who was appointed as managing director in May 2019, has resigned for personal reasons, with the impact of Covid-19 meaning that his role “suddenly became very different”.

Webster is a veteran at the broadcaster, and joined Sky in 1997. He initially joined as group commercial director for Sky, a role he held for over 20 years before moving over to Sky Sports.

The exec is set to be replaced by Sky Sports deputy managing director Jonathan Licht, the report adds.

The news comes after the broadcaster agreed to renew its existing rights deal with the English Premier League. This ensures that the broadcaster will be the primary broadcaster of the country’s top football competition until at least 2025.
