Premier League to continue blanket coverage until fans return

The English Premier League will continue to be broadcast in its entirety until fans return, the league has confirmed.

While the league has continued to show all matches – albeit with a short-lived experiment with pay-per-view in the Autumn – the league has re-evaluated broadcast arrangements each month.

However, going forward the league has said that all fixtures for the 2020/21 season will continue to be made available to fans to watch live in the UK. This, it said, will be extended until government guidance allows for fans to re-enter stadiums in person. 

The league confirmed that all matches will be shown via existing broadcast partners Sky Sports, BT Sport, Amazon Prime Video and BBC, and that specific broadcast selections for March will be announced at a later date.

A statement from the league said: “The Premier League and its clubs remain committed to an accessible solution for fans. The UK live broadcast arrangements will be reviewed in consultation with clubs and in line with any decisions made by Government regarding the return of spectators to stadiums.”

The Premier League will also push back on proposed reforms to the UEFA Champions League, with the English top flight league objecting to the competition’s expansion from 32 to 36 clubs.
