HBO Max to expand to Latin America in June
HBO Max will expand to 39 territories across Latin America and the Carribean in June, WarnerMedia has confirmed.
The expansion will mark the first time that the premium SVOD will be available outside of the US, with plans also in the works to convert existing HBO OTT products across Europe into HBO Max over the coming months.
The service will be made available to existing HBO GO direct-billed customers, as well as those who are billed through eligible partners, along with new subscribers. Warner confirmed that the existing HBO GO service will be phased out, and that the new app will mirror the HBO Max product in the US. It will run the same tech stack as its US counterpart, though its content offering will likely differ.
The territories covered by this announcement include: Anguilla, Antigua, Argentina, Aruba, B.V.I., Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Curacao, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Grenada, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Montserrat, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, Turks and Caicos, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Johannes Larcher, Head of HBO Max International, said: “We are thrilled for the launch of HBO Max in Latin America and the Caribbean, which is the first step in bringing WarnerMedia’s Direct-to-Consumer service to consumers outside of the US, and around the world. By combining HBO with the very best of WarnerMedia’s series and film catalog, as well as locally produced content from master-storytellers in Latin America, HBO Max will offer fans in the region an unforgettable and enriching entertainment experience.”
HBO Max has seen a solid start to life in the US, amassing 17.2 million subscribers by the end of Q4, 2020.
