BBC Sounds lands on Sky Q
Sky has announced the latest app launch on its Sky Q STB platform: BBC Sounds.
The BBC Sounds app is now available to all Sky Q customers in the UK at no extra cost. BBC Sounds offers access to over 80,000 hours of music, radio and podcasts, and makes it easy for listeners to tune into live radio, podcasts, music and on demand programmes.
The launch comes after a successful 2020 which saw significant expansion for BBC Sounds with a number of launches. Those platform rollouts included Humax Freeview Play devices, Freesat and on Virgin Media.
The app joins a number of UK favourites on the Sky Q platform including Disney+, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube and Netflix.
Sky noted that the deal to bring BBC Sounds to its platform is an expanded version of the content and tech partnership which was signed in November 2019. That deal, which also brought the BBC iPlayer to Sky Q, sees the companies collaborate on tech including Sky’s PromoSmart content delivery software.
Patrick Behar, Chief Business Officer, Sky,said: “In 2020, we brought a range of apps to Sky Q including Disney+, Discovery+ and Amazon Prime Video, so I’m delighted to kick start the new year by adding the brilliant BBC Sounds app to the Sky Q mix. We know the value our customers place on BBC content so it’s great that they can access the best of music, radio and podcasts alongside their favourite TV, in one place, easy.”
