LG launches webOS 6.0
LG has announced the latest update to its webOS smart TV platform.
The headline feature of webOS 6.0 is a redesigned layout which replaces the ‘blade’ lineup of apps with a more traditional tile layout which should be instantly recognisable to users of platforms like Apple TV and Android TV.
The update, which has been dubbed by LG Home Entertainment president Park Hyoung-sei as “the most significant” since webOS’s introduction in 2014, promises to provide faster access to the most frequently used apps with streamlined content discovery.
Also featured is an upgraded version of LG’s ThinQ AI, which supports new voice commands for both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa. This, coupled with LG’s new ‘Magic Remote’ should make viewing on LG TVs much more straightforward.
The new remote also includes NFC functionality, which LG says will open up a range of features to users. This capability will allow users to tap their NFC-enabled smartphone to view content from their phones, and will enable faster login to apps like Disney+ and Netflix.
Park Hyoung-sei added: “With the new edition of webOS, LG is demonstrating its commitment of offering services, products and technologies that respond to the needs and wants of our valued customers.”
