Gerry O’Sullivan leaving Eutelsat

It is understood that Gerry O’Sullivan, EVP of global TV and video at Eutelsat has decided to leave the Paris-based satellite operator.

According to an email circulated to staff, the former Sky and Deutsche Telekom executive is leaving to take on new opportunities closer to his home in the UK.

O’Sullivan, who was instrumental in launching a range of new innovations for Eutelsat’s video business unit including the Cirrus cloud video OTT platform, had been commuting to Paris for the last two and a half years from London.

O’Sullivan was hired by Eutelsat in 2017 to help transform its video business, which generated over three fifths of the company’s overall revenues in the year to June. He was responsible for helping the company broaden the range of its video offerings to provide cloud-based OTT video, VOD and EPG services via the Cirrus platform.

He was also responsible for the Fransat free-to-view platform, which has around two million customers, and the launch of the world’s first 8K TV channel.

O’Sullivan worked for Sky as director of strategic product development and director of product management for 10 years until 2010, where he was responsible for innovations that included the launch of Sky+ HD and Sky’s VoD and catch-up service, and subsequently worked as SVP of global TV and entertainment at Deutsche Telekom until 2013.

He has also served as interim CEO at Digicel and on the board of directors of Piksel.
