Netgem launches Super WiFi on Videofutur
TV and broadband technology company Netgem has launched Super WiFi, a new service designed to improve WiFi coverage in consumers’ homes, with the service initially deployed across its Videofutur fibre ISP business in France.
Videofutur focuses on providing broadband and entertainment to under-served regions in France. The new Videofutur maFibre proposition couples 1Gbps fibre access with WiFi mesh pods and a unified experience for WiFi and entertainment through a single mobile app.
Super WiFi is included by default in the flagship bundle from Videofutur, including two or three plug-and-play WiFi pods compatible with the WiFi Alliance standard Easymesh, and a mobile application offering an assisted setup and control with monitoring of quality of all devices connected in the home.
It also comes with a cloud-based management tool for operators so customer service agents can monitor the quality of the in-home network.
Super WiFi is being offered through a WiFi-Mesh-as-a-service model, allowing emerging new fibre operators to complete their access offering with a a complete WiFi Mesh service without large initial investments in systems or QoS platforms, and with a pay-as-you-grow model, according to Netgem.
Sylvain Thevenot, chief commercial and customer officer at Netgem Group, said: “With more than 25 years of experience working with telecom operators by providing innovative multiscreen TV services, it appeared clear to us with the most demanding service in the home being video streaming, that operators needed a simple and yet powerful solution to offer the best WiFi connectivity behind an ultrafast broadband connection. We have now enhanced our existing device management systems to include both TV and WiFi devices, allowing fibre operators in particular to offer the best experience to
their customers: cost-effective and standard-based WiFi mesh pods, controlled by a simple mobile app, and a powerful management tool, we are offering ISPs the full WiFi mesh solution, as a service.”
