ViacomCBS does deal with O2 for MTV Play
ViacomCBS Networks UK has signed a deal with Telefónica-owned mobile operator O2 to give customers complimentary access to MTV Play.
The agreement will see new and existing O2 customers offered access to the SVOD for three months, free of charge.
The app launched in 2017, and provides users with hundreds of hours of long gorm episodes and short form content. Shows on the service include Catfish, Ex on the Beach, Geordie Shore and The Hills.
ViacomCBS said that MTV Play has strengthened in 2020, with viewership up 338% compared to the previous year. The company added that 58% of the app’s all-time views took place in the UK’s lockdown period, with Celebrity Ex on the Beach and Teen Mom UK being the most popular shows.
Arran Tindall, chief commercial officer, EVP, Commercial & Content Distribution at ViacomCBS Networks International said: “Partnerships are fundamental to our model and essential for reaching new audiences, so we’re pleased to have struck this deal for MTV Play with one of the UK’s most prominent mobile networks. MTV Play will enable O2 customers to enjoy MTV’s premium content as and when they choose. The app continues to grow its viewership, reflecting the popularity of the youth-focused, reality programming available.”
