Vodafone adds Amazon Prime and YouTube Premium as bolt-on benefits
Vodafone has announced partnerships with Amazon and YouTube to become the first UK operator to offer customers a choice of Amazon Prime or YouTube Premium as part of a mobile plan.
Vodafone previously offered Prime Video as a benefit, but this announcement expands that to cover the entire Prime suite including premium membership of game streaming platform Twitch and free express delivery from the ecommerce giant.
The telco said that existing Vodafone entertainment customers that had previously selected Amazon Prime Video and have more than three months of membership left will be automatically upgraded to the full Amazon Prime offering for the remaining period of their contract.
Alternatively, users can select YouTube Premium as their entertainment partner. YouTube Premium offers ad-free and offline access to the Google-owned video platform and also allows users to continue playing content in the background while using other apps or if the screen is turned off – a particularly beneficial feature to users who watch on mobile.
These add to a benefit portfolio which already contains Spotify Premium, Now TV Entertainment Pass and Sky Sports Mobile TV.
Max Taylor, consumer director at Vodafone UK, said: “Keeping our customers connected to the people and things that they love the most is our number one priority. That is why we are delighted to be the first UK operator to give our customers access to Amazon Prime and YouTube Premium as part of their mobile plan.
“It means they can watch their favourite films, shows and videos, listen to their favourite music and do their online shopping, whenever and wherever on the UK’s best mobile data network”.
Heather Rivera, vice president and global head of product partnerships at YouTube, said: “We are so pleased to be working with Vodafone to give their customers the choice of YouTube Premium with their subscription. Thanks to Vodafone for this great partnership, and we look forward to giving the best of YouTube to more people across the UK.”
