DNA turns to Edgeware for next-gen TV service
Finnish cable and telecom provider DNA has tapped technology outfit Edgeware’s StreamBuilder content processing platform as the key building block in its next-generation DNA TV service.
Expanding its existing use of Edgeware’s CDN technology, DNA has added StreamBuilder’s functionalities such as video-on-demand, content ingest, network DVR recordings, and just in time packaging, to enhance its new service.
Launched in February this year, the new DNA TV has revamped DNA’s TV offering for IP-based delivery, introducing multiple features including unlimited NPVR recordings, a new user interface and improved video stream quality.
Subscribers can view and record unlimited TV programmes and watch live and VOD content anywhere in the EU via the DNA TV app. The service also delivers content recommendations based on users’ individual viewing preferences.
StreamBuilder provides for DNA TV’s origin server requirements,spanning ingest and stream segmentation, repackaging, and live and VOD content encryption.
In addition to supporting NDVR recordings and catch-up content, the platform can also deliver content in multiple formats such as HLS and DASH through just-in-time packaging, saving on storage since content is only stored once, according to Edgeware.
