My5, the video on demand platform of UK free to air broadcaster Channel 5, saw record viewing numbers on the week commencing April 27.

Last week, the AVOD saw its strongest ever week with week-on-week viewing up by 59% and year-on-year viewing up 184%. The week surpassed week 4 of 2016 when Big Brother drove 65% of all streams.

Drama was the biggest driver of viewers, with the genre accounting for half of all viewing time. The broadcaster’s original thriller Blood accounted for 32% of that figure with a total of 1.6 million views across the week. The broadcaster said that the show is on track to become one of My5’s most successful series to date.

Factual programming was also popular. Police Interceptors was up 20%, while Filthy House SOS grew 23% to its strongest week to date.

The first quarter was very fruitful for My5, with the broadcaster saying that on demand viewing grew by 52% year-over-year. My5 is the third largest broadcaster AVOD in the UK and has 5 million registered users.

Oli Thomas, VP, digital lead, Channel 5 said: “With most of the nation at home, they’re turning to streaming platforms like My5 for their daily entertainment and our investment in drama is particularly resonating with viewers. There’s a significant uptake of people binge-watching our original commissions like Blood and Penance, and with more drama series in the pipeline, such as All Creatures Great and Small, we’re continuing to establish My5 as a prime destination for drama.”
