Netgem offers three months for free amid coronavirus
On-demand TV streamer Netgem TV is launching a free three-month offer in an attempt to “support customers during the uncertainty provoked by COVID-19.”
The company said that customers from Netgem’s network of broadband providers – an estimated 250,000 households – will be able to benefit from a totally free subscription to the service for three months. In addition, those who upgrade to fibre and TV, will be able to benefit from Amazon Prime services for a year at no extra charge.
The platform is a content aggregating freeview box which offers access to free-to-air players from broadcasters the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and UKTV, along with Amazon Prime Video, Rakuten TV, Hayu, Hopster, Trace TV and others, although Netflix is absent. Its £14.99 per month subscription also includes access to extra HD channels across music, fashion, and sports with Premier Sports (worth £11.99 per month – though of little value at present due to a lack of live sports around the world).
The offer is available immediately through a customer’s internet service provider and for Netgem TV customers that have purchased the box via Amazon in the past 30 days. In the UK, Netgem has partnerships with operators including EE, Three, PureFibre and Origin.
Sylvain Thevenot, managing director of Netgem TV, said: “We are very excited to be in the position to announce this offer and work closely with our broadband partners to offer customers an opportunity to access the widest possible range of content when they will most be needing it.”
Steve Leighton, CEO of rural broadband provider Voneus, said: “In the world we live in, access to broadband is becoming increasingly important and it is the local ISPs that are helping those in less communicated areas secure this access. We are particularly thrilled about the opportunity to launch this new offer along with Netgem TV, as it is a way of reinforcing our commitment with customers in providing strong TV packages with wider content available, especially in times like these when more time is being spent at home.”
