Freesat taps CommScope for new generation of 4K boxes

UK free-to-view satellite platform Freesat has launched a new generation of 4K TV boxes, including three new DVR-enabled models and a zapper box.

The devices will be available from Amazon from the end of February and from retailer Currys PC World shortly afterwards.

The internet-connected boxes are being produced by CommScope, the first Freesat-led devices from the company.

Freesat’s new set top boxes are 4K ready and incorporate features including a seveb-day backwards guide. The Freesat Recordable 4K TV box gives users the ability to pause and rewind live TV.

Custoemrs with a wideband LNB satellite dish are able to record up to four channels at the same time, and the 2TB box storage holds up to 1,000 hours of SD content.  Broadband-connected recordable boxes can be paired with the Freesat mobile app

The boxes have been designed to allow Freesat to remotely update the service for users and include a new-look homescreen incorporating an optional high contrast UI.
