BritBox expands device range, now available on Chromecast
BritBox, the new UK streamer from ITV and the BBC, has increased the range of devices on which the service is available.
Most noteworthy among the additions is Google Chromecast sticks, with smart TVs from Panasonic and Vestel also being included.
With availability on these devices, in addition to other TV devices such as Apple TV and Samsung smart TVs, the company says that it is now accessible on “around 10 million devices”. This, BritBox says, represents one third of VOD homes, with plans to increase that to 20 million by Spring 2020.
Helen Dixon, head of marketing for TV from Panasonic UK said: “We are pleased to be one of the first to support BritBox with the inclusion on our premium range of TV’s in order to bring classic British television programmes to our customers’ homes, especially in time for Christmas.”’
Reemah Sakaan, group launch director for ITV SVOD said: “We are rolling out more ways of watching BritBox all the time, and are thrilled to confirm our partnerships with Chromecast, Vestel and Panasonic in time for Christmas. We look forward to adding even more ways to enjoy the best of British creativity in 2020, including more FreeView Play sets, YouView devices and Amazon FireTV.”
This news should prove as a boost to BritBox, which recently suffered a setback after it was reported that Sky has no interest in bringing the streamer to its Sky Q platform.
