Vevo announces distribution deal with Samsung TV Plus
Music video platform Vevo has signed a distribution deal with Samsung.
The deal will see five genre-curated linear channels to the smart TV maker’s Samsung TV Plus service. The first to launch will be Vevo Pop on channel 1517, with Vevo Hip-Hop, Vevo Country, Vevo Latino, and Vevo R&B to be added at a later date.
This deal follows a similar partnership with TV software provider Vewd, announced in August. That agreement saw the Vevo app, rather than linear channels, added to the OS.
Kevin McGurn, Vevo’s president of sales and distribution said: “With over 2.3 billion monthly global views on TV we are hyper focused on our OTT packaging and distribution strategy. With the largest library of ad-supported music videos we continue to re-define the return of music videos to the living room for our audience and customers.
“As a global leader in TV, Samsung is an ideal partner for us to enhance our offering; with their scale and reach the Samsung TV Plus service represents enormous opportunities for our clients and partners.”
Samsung TV Plus is an OTT linear AVOD service, and is pre-installed on all 2016-19 Samsung smart TVs. Its offerings include channels from Rakuten and Viacom’s Pluto TV.
Vevo itself recently launched on the Pluto TV platform, though its offering is much more expansive than this deal with Samsung – 10 channels to Samsung TV Plus’ five.
