Britbox announces first British distribution deals
Britbox, the SVOD streaming initiative of the BBC and ITV, has announced its first set of distribution deals in the UK.
The company has announced that the OTT platform will be available on Samsung, Freeview Play and YouView devices.
Launching between October and December 2019, Britbox will set subscribers back £5.99 per month and will offer a range of classic and contemporary shows from the BBC and ITV. The service first launched in the US in 2017, and has since attracted over 650,000 subscribers.
The Britbox app will be available on the Tizen range of Samsung TVs, while the Freeview Play deal will see the app on a range of devices, including those from Sony, Digihome, JVC, Logik, Luxor, Polaroid, Techwood and Toshiba. Meanwhile, YouView set-top boxes will receive the app by the end of 2019.
Owen Jenkinson, marketing director at Freeview said: “Our viewers love great British TV, so BritBox is a fantastic addition to the Freeview line up, providing extra options to top up on the best of free TV they already enjoy via the nation’s biggest TV platform.”
Reemah Sakaan, group launch director for ITV SVOD added: “Our fantastic partners indicate the appetite for our exciting, new, on-demand service. We look forward to announcing additional distribution deals in the future.”
