Poland’s nc+ takes majority stake in leading film distributor
Polish pay TV operator nc+ has agreed to take a majority stake in film distributor Kino Świat.
The move will see nc+ take a 70% stake in the film distributor, and as a result of the deal the nc+ platform will become a distributor of the Kino Świat catalogue of over 2,000 hours of cinema and TV films.
According to nc+, Kino Światis the biggest film distributor in Poland, and is active in cinema, physical video format distribution, video-on-demand and TV, according to nc+.
Titles in the Kino Świat catalogue include Wojciech Smarzowski’s Kler,one of the hightest grossing Polish movies in the domestic market in recent years, and Paweł Pawlikowski’s Palm d’Or-winning Cold War (Zimna wojna). The company is also involved in co-production of Polish and international films.
A minority stake will remain with the current Kino Świat owners, Tomasz Karczewski and Marcin Piasecki, who will remain on the company’s board and will take an active part in managing and further developingthe company.
The acquisition is subject to approval by the Polish competition regulator.
