KPN launches children’s portal
Dutch KPN has launched a portal on its iTV app specifically aimed at children aged 0-6.
A part of the KPN iTV app on tablets, subscribers can access a child-friendly environment for watching content such as Bob the Builder and Dora The Explorer.
The move is an attempt to create a service for KPN subscribers that can provide a more curated experience than YouTube’s dedicated Kids app, which has been criticised over inappropriate content.
Stijn Nuijten, KPN Director Marketing Consumer Market said: “Media safety is very important for parents, that’s why we have developed an environment especially for children where they can enjoy series and films without worrying. Parents appreciate this protected and child-friendly solution with which they can offer their young children a lot of entertainment and at the same time be sure that they view content that fits their child’s experience. “
The portal offers access to more than 250 films and series on demand.
It is markedly different from the core iTV experience, with several enhancements specifically designed for children. These include automatic playback in full screen and a screen timer to limit maximum viewing time.
KPN also touts its ‘Kinderslot’ feature that allows parents to moderate genres their children can watch on its TV set top box. These settings are also taken into account in the iTV app.
