Arris launches its first US Android TV STB with TDS Telecom

US equipment vendor Arris and US regional telco and cable operator TDS Telecom have announced plans to deploy an Android TV set-top box (STB) solution for the TDS Cloud TV platform called TDS TV+.

 The STB marks Arris’s first foray into developing an Android TV device for the region.

TDS TV+ features more than 260 linear channels, on-demand content, pay-per-view programming, and on-the-go viewing options with TDS TV Everywhere.

Ken Paker, senior vice president, Information and Network Technologies and CTO at TDS said: “We turned to Arris because we needed a more efficient platform for IP video delivery that combined both managed and un-managed video delivery options. The new platform enables TDS to customize the user experience for different customer segments.

“By combining Arris’s industry-leading technology, services, and experience with Android TV’s user interface, designed around content discovery and voice search, TDS can now provide customers with an easy-to-use, application-based video experience.”

Larry Robinson, senior vice president and segment leader, Customer Premises Equipment at CommScope added:  “This is a significant milestone for Arris as we deploy our first Android set-top in North America with TDS. Arris was acquired by Commscope in late 2018 for approximately US$7.4 billion (€6.56 billion), though it continues to operate under its own name.
