Malaysia runs analogue switchover pilot in Langkawi

The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in collaboration with private broadcasters has run a pilot digital switchover from analogue to Digital Terrestrial Television broadcasting (DTTB).

The pilot occurred at 2.30am, Sunday July 21 in Gunung Raya, Langkawi.

In addition, the MCMC and private broadcasters intend to conduct a comprehensive test run and study as part of the digital switchover or Analogue Switch Off (ASO) pilot project for the next two weeks in Langkawi. 

Following the pilots, minister of communications and multimedia, YB Gobind Singh Deo will launch the nationwide DTTB ASO. 

The ASO is part of a government effort to drive the nation towards digitalisation, as well as to gain digital dividends from the use of the 700MHz spectrum to further enable other services such as wireless broadband communications like 5G.
