Amazon launches first Fire-branded TVs with Dolby Vision support
Amazon has revealed its first range of Fire TVs which support Dolby Vision.
The sets are Toshiba-branded, with a 55-inch model on sale immediately for US$449.99 (€401.66). Amazon said that 43- and 50-inch models will be available on June 30 for US$329.99 (€294.55) and US$379.99 (€339.18) respectively.
The TVs mark a major step for the Dolby Vision standard, which has primarily been
reserved for more expensive smart TVs.
The sets will launch for sale in the US on Amazon and Best Buy, with no international plans yet announced.
Amazon’s Fire TV Edition smart TVs – of which there are more than 20 on the market – launched in June 2018 and serve as competition to the Roku TVs on offer from the likes of TCL.
Amazon recently announced that there are over 34 million active Fire TV users. This statistic covers Fire TV Stick, Fire TV Stick 4K, and Fire TV Cube, along with Fire TVs.
