Sky Deutschland extend US Open deal

Sky Deutschland has struck a new deal to secure ongoing coverage of the US Open golf tournament across satellite, cable, IPTV, the web and mobile in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

The agreement will see Sky deliver about 30 hours of live coverage from this year’s competition.

In addition to coverage of the competition on Sky Sport 2 HD, the pay TV operator will also provide 40 hours’ worth of additional coverage on Sky Sport 3 HD, and exclusive live-streams on the skysport.de website and direct to TVs for Sky Q subscribers.

The deal means that Sky will be the exclusive broadcaster of all four golf majors, the Ryder Cup and the US PGA Tour, as well as all tournaments of the European tour and the World Golf Championships.

Hans Grabbe, SVP of sports rights and commercialisation at Sky Deutschland said that the long-term extension of its existing partnership with the US Open meant that Sky would “remain the home of all four golf majors on German and Austrian television in the coming years”.
