Sky Deutschland adds YouTube, ARTE apps to Sky Q
Sky Deutschland is rolling out a “comprehensive software update” for Sky Q in the coming weeks that will include the addition of the YouTube and ARTE apps on the platform.
YouTube content in Ultra HD will be playable with Sky Q while the ARTE App will offer the German-French cultural channel’s livestream and programmes in HD for up to 90 days after they are broadcast live.
Other updates include a new Kids Mode, which can be selected from the Kids section of Sky Q and be PIN protected so that children can only access age-appropriate channels and on-demand content.
A ‘watch trailer’ function will be implemented for much of Sky Q’s on-demand content, film recommendations will be offered based on previous viewing habits, and Entertainment Plus customers with Netflix can also get recommendations from the SVOD service.
Meanwhile, a new energy-saving mode called Eco Plus will put Sky Q boxes into a ‘deep standby mode’ five minutes after the power is turned off. Sky said that, depending on usage, this can reduce power consumption by up to 0.5 watts.
“Since the successful launch of Sky Q in May 2018, we have continued to evolve the product, such as the introduction of the Sky Q voice remote control or the integration of Netflix,” said Julia Laukemann, senior vice president of product management at Sky Deutschland.
“With partners such as YouTube and ARTE, we continue to expand Sky Q as a platform for premium entertainment. New features such as Eco Plus Fashion and Kids Mode prove that we have listened to our customers and continue to improve Sky Q. “
The news comes amid reports that Sky Deutschland plans to close the Sky Arts linear channel and offer its arts and cultural output as an on-demand service as of April 3.
