DISH to integrate Google Assistant into Hopper DVR

US operator DISH had announced plans to integrate the Google Assistant into its Hopper family of receivers.

In the coming months, customers will be able to DISH’s existing voice remote to ask the Google Assistant to do activities like control smart home devices, provide weather and news updates, and display photos.

“Our customers love the convenience of voice control, so we’re expanding functionality to make it even more powerful,” said Niraj Desai, DISH vice president of product management.

“As a DISH subscriber, you will soon get the Google Assistant and all its incredible features – like adjusting your thermostat, managing your calendar or simply asking for the latest news – for free, right on your TV.”

DISH’s voice remote already lets users control the TV experience, including navigation, search and content selection. The Google Assistant integration comes after DISH rolled functionality last year to allow Hopper devices to pair with external Google Assistant devices like speakers and phones.
