BeIN Media switches to Eutelsat

Qatar-based pay TV provider BeIN Media is migrating its satellite transponder capacity from Egypt’s Nilesat over to Eutelsat’s position at 8° West.

The pay TV broadcaster said that the move was part of its commitment to providing its viewers with the best possible technology and uninterrupted coverage in satellite TV broadcasting.

BeIN Media is dual-illuminating on both satellites until December 31, aftershich subscribers will need to reconfigure their set-tops to receive its signals.

The company said that the switch of satellites will provide an increase in platform security and control, and improved resilience overall.

Egypt was one of the countries that aligned with Saudi Arabia in its dispute with Qatar. BeIN Media received a fine at the start of this year over plans to move coverage of the Africa Cup football competitions from Nilesat to Qatar-owned Es’hailsat, which the authorities said was in breach of the country’s competition law.
