Bavarian football association in eSports move with M-net

The Bayerische Fußball-Verband (BFV), Bavaria’s football association, is pushing ahead with investment in eSports with the creation of what it describes as the country’s first eFootball platform, www.bfv-esports.de.

The BFV has teamed up Munich-based fibre network operator M-net to create the platform, which will kick off with the FIFA 19 game on Playstation 4 on December 17.

The competition will start with a qualifying round, with three more preliminary rounds to follow for each month until March next year. Play-offs will then commence ahead of a final in June in Munich.

M-net currently supplies fibre broadband to 200,000 homes and businesses, and says that its low-latency network is well-suited to eSports.

The BFV  is working on a number of pillars to its eSports initiative including: tournaments for professional players such as the BFV eSports Cup 2019 powered by M-net; the creation of training camps for Bavarian clubs and the promotion of young talent; and the provision of information and education on eFootball for clubs as well as technical support.
