PŸUR goes digital in Dresden ahead of Saxon switchover

German cable operator Tele Columbus, which operates under the PŸUR brand, is taking forward its digital switchover plan to migrating subscribers in the city of Dresden to digital-only TV next week.

PŸUR will implement the switch-off of analogue cable services in the Saxony capital and neighbouring areas from December 11-13. Analogue TV and radio signals will be switched off in Dresden, Coswig, Langebrück, Lommatzsch, Nossen and Radeburg. Existing digital customers will be required to retune their set-top boxes after the switchover, while the few remaining analogue customers will be required to obtain a digital converter.

The switchover of cable services in Saxony has been mandated by the state government’s media law, with a deadline of the end of this year set for completion of the process. PŸUR said that the analogue switch-off would free up space for additional HD channels as well as freeing up capacity for faster broadband internet services.

PŸUR said that over 90% of its customers in affected areas had already converted to digital services. Switchover will kick off in Dresden on December 11, with Coswig and Langebrück to follow the same day and Lommatzsch and Nossen to follow on December 12.
