LOVEStv launches in Spain
LOVEStv, the joint HbbTV-based platform created by Spanish broadcasters RTVE, Atresmedia and Mediaset España has launched officially. The service’s backers predict that LOVEStv will be installed in two million TV sets by the end of this year.
The service currently provides access to seven-day catch-up from its partners, as well as the possibility to start watching a currently on air programme from the start, an improved electronic programme guide and a recommendation service. Other features to be added soon include local opt-outs and advanced advertising.
The LOVEStv partners have chosen wireless telecom and broadcasting infrastructure outfit Cellnex to provide the technology platform for the service, which will be available on TVs equipped with HbbTV 1.5 or above. LOVEStv is using the standard digital-terrestrial platform and users of up-to-date LG, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sony and Vestel TVs will be able to access the offering free-of-charge without the need to search for, download or install an app.
The three broadcasters have launched a promotional campaign that will be adapted by each to promote their specific content, inviting viewers to find out if their TVs are HbbTV-compatible and seeking to demonstrate the functionality of the service.
The trio of broadcasters, who say that the service is open to other participants, unveiled their plans to develop the joint platform in May, grouping their audiovisual content in a single location for on-demand viewing. The group said at the time that they would look to launch a joint OTT TV service as a second phase of the project, which will include additional content.
